WHO NEEDS A PASSWORD, JUST POP A PILL

Envision a time where you don’t need a password to unlock your facebook or your smartphone. Seems weird and funky at the same time to me, well guys this all is about to get real in a near future with Motorola’s new technology that will aide you to never remember a password again.

The company is working on a rather odd but fascinating technology that can help you in the entire authentication processes via a tattoo and a pill. Yes, this seemingly odd technology has already been tested and has passed several tests and is on the display.

The American multinational flaunted their products at the D11 Conference in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. The products as we speak of are a flexible tattoo, called Biostamp, that is made of silicon and some polymers and a pill, called Proteus Digital Health pillswhich is just like a normal everyday pill.

THE TATTOO

It is a flexible electronic stamp made of silicon and some polymer contents. This tattoo, called Biostamp, can be stuck to the user’s skin with the help of a rubber stamp and can be worn for up to two weeks as was told in the conference. If you have started pondering over its protection, then you should know that the company plans to protect the stamp using spray-on bandages and similar materials that help in saving the circuits from water and dust.

The tattoos have different circuits and sensors embedded in them that can be used to transmit information to your smartphones which can then be further processed and used accordingly. And yes you will be required to install certain applications for this to work, but that’s not too much to ask for such equipment.

The story for this tattoo does not end here, along with authenticating users, it can also be used for various other tasks depending on where you stick it.

If placed on muscles, it could track your muscle movement, monitor blood pressure and tasks like that.

In all, it’s more like an advanced bandage with some embedded circuits and sensors, but with the difference that you cannot use these on your wounds.

THE PILL

It is another technology for authenticating users that contains a computer chip inside the pill. Once swallowed, the chip generates a unique 18-bit signal, similar to that of an ECG signal, for each user. This signal can then be received by the wearer’s mobile device and processed accordingly for authentication and other purposes.

The pill can be consumed for up to 30 days regularly if needed. But what after that?? Well that will be unveiled soon the product hits the market, but for now there is no news for that.

One question that arises is the power source of this chip. Well the company tells that the chip gets itself powered up with the acid in the wearer’s stomach, how’s that for cool. And don’t worry about any side effects as this pill has been approved by the FDA for consumption purposes.

The products are being developed in collaboration with MC10, a Massachusetts based company, and are supposed to aide hospitals by tracking their patient’s status and providing their results in real time. This can help in reducing the load and the cost of deploying those large machineries and those hectic processes of monitoring patients.

The company says that the products are working all fine but there is no plan of introducing them to the market for general users in a very near future. Guess there is a little extra waiting time associated with it.

In the end the idea of a tattoo and a pill that identifies and authorizes you seems freakingly awesome. But it is very clear that with this luxury are linked certain conditions that seem weird. But we can hope that the developers modify a little bit in this luxury and make it a bit simple. I hope this article was of some help to you all. Your suggestions are always welcome and thanks for reading. God bless you all.
